Lucien M. Roughton, AIA, LEED AP BD+C

During his thirty-seven year career as an architect in North Carolina, Mr. Roughton has developed a practice concentrated on designing premier healthcare, educational, governmental, and commercial architecture. Lucien has been a principal architect for 24 years since he founded Roughton Nickelson De Luca Architects, PA in 1987. As Founding Principal, Lucien is passionate about the firm's commitment to excellence and he ensures each project achieves exceptional functional and aesthetic design. An active supporter of his profession and his community, Lucien has a special interest in urban planning and development. Lucien is a founding member of Durham Area Designers to provide pro bono design services on local community projects. Lucien is active in community, business, and civic organizations including the Durham and Alamance County Chambers and the Southwest Durham Rotary Club. Lucien is a former Director of AIA Triangle. Lucien received a Master of Architecture from the University of Wisconsin and a Bachelor of Environmental Design in Architecture from North Carolina State University.

Charles J. Nickelson, AIA, LEED AP BD+C

With more than twenty-one years of architectural experience, Mr. Nickelson's portfolio includes an exceptionally broad base of experience in governmental, educational, healthcare, and commercial architecture. Charles has specialized experience in complex renovation projects from adaptive reuse to historical architecture. Joining RND Architects fifteen years ago, Charles made a commitment to integrating sustainable design solutions into all RND projects. Today as Senior Principal he is proud to have a company culture that understands the importance of designing creative and innovative solutions that respect the environment. Charles is a former Director of AIA Triangle, a founding member of Durham Area Designers, and a member of numerous local preservation and environmental organizations. Trained in Germany and the United States, Charles has an interest in international design. Charles received a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Oregon and studied architecture abroad at the Universität Stuttgart in Stuttgart, Germany.

Gustavo C. A. De Luca, AIA

With more than thirty years of architectural experience, Mr. De Luca has focused the majority of his career on healthcare and laboratory design. Gustavo has completed more than one hundred healthcare related projects at area hospitals, offices, and institutions. Additionally, he has designed a variety of project types including office renovations and academic facilities. Since joining RND Architects as a partner in 2002, Gustavo has been instrumental in the development of the firm's healthcare portfolio. Today as Senior Principal, Gustavo has long working relationships with Duke University Medical Center, Durham VA Medical Center, Durham Regional Hospital, and Duke University. Gustavo is a former officer and secretary of AIA Triangle and is a former president of the Southwest Durham Rotary Club. Trained in Argentina and the United States, he brings a multicultural perspective to his work. Gustavo received a Master of Architecture from North Carolina State University and a Master of Architecture from the National University of San Juan, San Juan, Argentina.

David B. Daniel, AIA, LEED AP BD+C

With over fifteen years of architectural design and project management experience, Mr. Daniel's portfolio includes healthcare, higher education, governmental, and commercial design. David's areas of specialization include medical procedure and diagnostic rooms, operating rooms, and healthcare administrative offices. Since joining RND Architects in 2007, David has been an important part of RND's growth and success and was promoted to a partner of the firm in 2011. David's professional interests include the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) allowing the project team a better understanding of their project throughout the entire design and construction process. Mr. Daniel has previously served eight years, including three years as Chair, on the Planning Board as well as several other planning committees for the Town of Hillsborough. David received a Bachelor of Architecture Professional Degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
