Durham County Sheriff’s Firing Range Improvements


This project will involve the renovation of Durham County’s existing pistol and rifle practice firing range facilities, as well as the design and construction of a new maintenance and training facility. In addition to these architectural improvements, the project will involve extensive site upgrades and the construction of a new parking lot and additional firing venues. We are partnered with Engineered Designs, Inc. and Coulter Jewell Thames, PA.

Town of Cary: Carpenter Fire Station Road Neighborhood Park


RND Architects is pleased to join the design team lead by Surface678 on the design a new 20-acre park located at the southeast corner of Green Level Church Road and McCrimmon Parkway in Cary, North Carolina. The new neighborhood park will integrate recreation amenities within the beautiful rolling topography, mature tree canopy, and existing creeks. Among structures for shade and support, RND will design a restroom/shelter facility as well as provide a feature along the open lawn.

Elon Francis Center Research Lab Renovation


This renovation involves the design of new research labs, offices, and a lobby for the Graduate School of Health Sciences at Elon’s Francis Center. RND will provide field surveys to document existing conditions, conduct code research, and provide schematic design services through construction administration.

Hillsborough Water Facility Conceptual Planning


Following the successful completion of the Hillsborough Town Barn and Annex Renovation project, RND has been selected to perform a feasibility study and conceptual planning for the adaptive re-use of the Town’s existing Adron F. Thompson Water/Sewer Facility. The project will entail extensive site investigations, conceptual design and planning, and the development of recommendations with cost estimates.

UNC-CH Taylor Health Reception Renovation


RND recently completed the UNC Taylor Health Student Services Renovation, which provided significant improvements to over 13,500 square feet of the facility. Due to the success of this renovation project, our team was commissioned to provide similar services for another reception area within the building.

NC DOJ 4th Floor State Crime Lab Renovation


This project involves the complete renovation of the State Crime Lab’s fourth floor, including the design of new modern lab areas for processing work. In addition, the scope involves repairs to the exhaust/HVAC systems, a roof replacement, and the design of improved office space for lab staff.

UNC Lenoir Dining Hall Addition


Lenoir Dining Hall is located at the heart of UNC Chapel Hill’s campus. It neighbors The Pit, a highly active student gathering area, as well as several  other prominent campus buildings. RND was awarded this exciting project which will increase the existing dining hall’s seating capacity.

Our team conducted extensive site investigations, surveys, and analyses to identify the most strategic location for the project addition. We then proposed several design schemes through sketches, diagrams, and renderings in combination with preliminary cost estimates to advance the project from schematic design to design development.

Raleigh State Veterans Home


The design of the new Raleigh State Veterans home 120-bed facility features four distinct neighborhoods, each with 2-3 intimate households. As a result of this organization, each resident room is equipped with at least one window and views to the surrounding landscape.

Salisbury State Veterans Home Renovation & Addition


Construction has begun at the Salisbury State Veterans Home! This project will transform the outdated aesthetic of the building, which was originally constructed in 1965. The renovation will include comprehensive interior finish upgrades, the construction of a large multi-purpose event area and winter garden, and extensive building system improvements.

Construction was strategically phased to maintain building occupancy. Due to the Covid-19 crisis, construction at this time is limited to the exterior of the building.

Elon Smith Hall Renovation


RND Architects has collaborated with Elon University in the renovation of several of residence halls, including the recently completed Elon West and Virginia Hall Renovation. In this renovation, currently in the final states of Construction Documentation, RND is performing upgrades to restrooms on three floors of the dormitory. The scope includes upgrades to the fixtures, finishes, and MEP systems.

ASU Panhellenic Hall Elevator Modernizations


Modernization of two elevators on Appalachian State University’s campus including upgrades to the drives, cables, doors, operators, controllers, interior finishes, and associated life safety systems.

Durham Judicial Annex Renovation


LEED Certified renovation of the first and second floors of the Judicial Annex building, including architectural upgrades, an elevator replacement, and new furnishings, signage, and graphics.

Taylor Campus Health Renovation


Comprehensive renovation of the ground floor of the UNC Chapel Hill student health services facility. The multi-phased renovation included the re-configuration of the floor plan, interior finish upgrades, site and landscaping improvements, and extensive building improvement upgrades.
