UNC-CH Marsico BRIC – 9.4T MRI

This upfit in the basement of the ten-story 325,00 SF Marsico Hall was a renovation to an existing unused Server Room. After first completing a Feasibility Study for this project, RND created an MRI Research Lab that includes a Procedure Room and Photometry Lab as well as the Bruker 9.4T MRI and adjacent Control Room and Equipment Room. Upgrades were made to the building HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire alarm, fire protection, and process chilled water systems to accommodate the new MRI.

This project was a challenge to work in a huge research facility with sensitive equipment that had to be closely coordinated for utility shutdowns and upgrades to accommodate the new MRI. RND worked closely with  the School of Medicine to schedule construction impacts to adjacent departments to minimize disruption to ongoing research.  MRI delivery is scheduled for August 2023.  General Contractor:  Lomax Construction out of Colfax, NC.
