OUR APPROACH
As an intimate, local office, we offer a high degree of design talent and construction administration knowledge without sacrificing superior customer services.
OUR CULTURE
Our office is located in Durham, NC. We are on the second floor of a four-office suite, which was designed by the firm.
Our team is comprised of eleven talented and diverse team members, including four registered architects and five professional designers. Our office culture is familial, creative, and interactive. We work together toward common firm goals and the best interest of our clients.
As our client, you will be invited to engage in our design process. We encourage feedback and open communication throughout the entire project life cycle, which results in refined design solutions and efficient project schedules.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
We believe in design that serves people first and foremost. Whether we are brainstorming a hospital patient room or a new classroom prototype, the user is our main priority.
We also believe that whenever and wherever possible, existing materials should be re-used. That’s why so many of our projects involve renovation or adaptive re-use work. Not only does this reduce costs, it’s also more environmentally conscious and often results in unique design solutions. We’d love to discuss the possibility of renovating your existing space, or advise you in solutions that start from scratch.

96%
of our work involves Renovations & Additions
At RND Architects, we are excited by the potentials of renovation and adaptive re-use design. We’ve specialized in this project type for over three decades and our designers understand the unique challenges and opportunities associated with this approach. As the AIA’s call for architects to consider each design as “urgent” toward contributing more or less to human-caused climate change, we believe the building re-use is one of the most sustainable and strategic opportunities available to the architectural community.

OUR PROCESS
INVESTIGATION
To initiate the design process, we thoroughly analyze the project site and building. We understand a project’s success is dependent upon our understanding of its historical and physical contexts.
PROJECT SCOPE
Utilizing this information, we collaborate with the owner to create a defined project scope. We emphasize open communication in regards to project goals, schedules, and budget constraints.
DESIGN
Our talented designers propose a number of solutions through sketches, diagrams, and renderings. Each scheme is presented with a preliminary cost estimate and construction schedule.
CONSTRUCTION
We finalize the design through formal construction documents and specifications. During this project phase, our experts will guide, monitor, and evaluate the project’s progress until it’s final completion.
