Elon University Health Sciences Francis Center Phase 3 Renovation
Elon University’s Health Sciences facility began its life as a donated ham-processing plant. Beginning in 2010 and continuing to 2024, RND masterplanned and designed a multi-phased renovation which has, over time, transformed the facility into a modern graduate school campus for Nursing, Physical Therapy, and other Health Science modalities.
From its humble beginnings as a windowless factory, the Health Sciences campus has been given a new brighter life. With the judicious addition of windows, skylights, and a glass vertical connector between the existing buildings, the newly renovated spaces shine with natural light. Indoor and outdoor lounge areas give students and faculty a rejuvenating space for downtime.
Utilizing advanced technologies, the facility includes Skills and Simulation Labs, Virtual Reality Labs, Research Labs, Human Performance Lab, and an Anatomy Lab with Donor Program and Memorial Garden. Large flexible classrooms, small quiet study spaces, and faculty office suites round out the program.
Teamed with Edmondson Engineers for PME, Gardner & McDaniel Structural Engineering, Stimmel Design for Site, Elon’s Interior Design group, and Davie Construction as CmaR.
