Durham County Judicial Annex Renovation

In renovation of this prominent County facility, RND led a multi-disciplinary team in the successful renovation of the first and second floors. The project scope involved architectural upgrades to the lobby and entry, an elevator replacement, water heater replacement, roof replacement, and new finishes, furniture, signage, and graphics.

This project was LEED Certified and involved a number of sustainable design solutions. In order to avoid putting the old roof in a landfill, we integrated the old material with new innovate phase change insulation material and reflective roof membrane. This will greatly reduced the energy required to heat and cool the building for the next 30 years. In addition, we re-oriented the circulation corridors to create bright, daylit corridors with views that connect occupants to the historic downtown Durham. Furniture and finishes were selected for low-emiitance and durability, and glare was greatly reduced by adding innovative ceramic film to the existing glazing.
