UNC Marsico 9.4T MRI
This up-fit in the basement of the ten-story 325.000 SF Marsico Hall was a 1,345 SF renovation in an existing, unused Server Room. After first completing a Feasibility Study for this project, RND created an MRI Small Animal Research Lab that included a Procedure Room, Photometry Lab; and the Bruker 9.4T MRI, it’s adjacent Control Room and Equipment Room. Upgrades were also made to the building HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire alarm, fire protection, and process chilled water systems to accommodate the new MRI. It was a challenge to work in a large research facility with sensitive equipment because it worked closely with Tom Lotor of the School of Medicine. With this in mind, it was important to schedule construction impacts to minimize disruption of ongoing research in the adjacent departments.
