RENCi at Europa Center

UNC Chapel Hill RENCi at Europa Center

The Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCi) launched an innovative research partnership with UNC Chapel Hill, Duke University, and NC State University in 2005. The new program aims to identify, research, and solve immanent challenges within North Carolina, the greater nation, and the world.

RENCi commissioned RND to provide space planning, architectural design, and interior design services for their new headquarter offices at the Europa Center. The project scope involved the design of 12,000 square feet of Class A office space and 2,000 square feet of high density computer rooms.

Integrated within the administrative spaces were visualization labs, video conferencing rooms, a robotics lab, a new HD Edit Suite, and high performance data center. In order to accommodate the power and cooling loads of the renovated areas, our architectural team worked closely with consultant engineers to ensure project success.

Alamance County Courthouse

Alamance County Courthouse Restoration

In the renovation of this historic city building, our design team provided comprehensive interior and exterior design and construction services. The project scope included extensive window replacements, ceiling installations, HVAC upgrades, lighting upgrades, and new interior finishes throughout.

Our design team extensively researched the materials used in this project to match the structure’s original grandeur. In its completion, the renovation brought new life and significance to both the building and its community.

The designers made this building very energy efficient and technologically friendly. It has all the modern conveniences of a new building while preserving the moldings, architectural style, color pallets, and materials of its original designer – whom I believe would be more than pleased.

Brightleaf Square Courtyard Renovation

Brightleaf Square Courtyard Renovation

In recent years, downtown Durham has witnessed a significant revival. As part of this growth, the City of Durham commissioned our firm to renovate and upgrade Brightleaf Square, a shopping and restaurant plaza near the Tobacco District.

Our team introduced new hardscaping, landscaping, and signage which engages pedestrians and directs them down the side street. Through careful material selection and lighting design,  the charm of the existing structures is enhanced. The result is one of the most vibrant shopping centers in Durham.

This project earned the 2012 Durham Golden Leaf Award for Community Appearance.
