Skin Wellness Center

Skin Wellness Center

Our teams provided comprehensive design and construction administration services in the up-fit of this private skin wellness office. Included within the scope was a lobby and reception room, patient rooms, nurse stations, procedure rooms, laboratories, and office spaces.

The project features a number of delicate architectural details, such as the ribbed reception wall, which introduce texture and visual interest without compromising the project’s budget restraints. The serene space is abundant with natural light and was washed with muted natural tones to blur the lines between interior and exterior.

Alamance County Courthouse

Alamance County Courthouse Restoration

In the renovation of this historic city building, our design team provided comprehensive interior and exterior design and construction services. The project scope included extensive window replacements, ceiling installations, HVAC upgrades, lighting upgrades, and new interior finishes throughout.

Our design team extensively researched the materials used in this project to match the structure’s original grandeur. In its completion, the renovation brought new life and significance to both the building and its community.

The designers made this building very energy efficient and technologically friendly. It has all the modern conveniences of a new building while preserving the moldings, architectural style, color pallets, and materials of its original designer – whom I believe would be more than pleased.

Our design team provided master planning, design, and construction administration services for this new public facility.

The site features a 100 space parking lot, a restroom and picnic shelter, parking for horse trailers, integrated public art, and an open space lawn. The structure was inspired by the area’s vernacular barn and shelter precedents, resulting in a contextually appropriate yet modern public facility.

Following our extensive research and investigation, we designed energy efficient windows and doors. The new replacements feature mullion patterns and glazes reflective of the original style.

The interior also underwent comprehensive renovations, including finish upgrades to the art-deco lobby and ballroom, which is used today for weddings, community events, and public gatherings. The monolithic ceiling was replaced by a metal trusses and a new lighting systems. In addition, our team designed a small stage and restored the buildings upper balcony seating.

I just wanted to express my enthusiastic praise for all of your work on the Armory renovation. I just got back from an impromptu walk-through and I am absolutely delighted with the results...I hope each of you takes a great deal of pride in what we accomplished on this project.

The second phase included building envelope improvements to the remainder of the facility, such as repairs to the masonry, application of water repellent coatings, and roof repairs.

Lastly, the third project phase involved improvements to the fan experience facilities. Our team designed new additions to the concession facilities, sky boxes, and VIP viewing suites.

Brightleaf Square Courtyard Renovation

Brightleaf Square Courtyard Renovation

In recent years, downtown Durham has witnessed a significant revival. As part of this growth, the City of Durham commissioned our firm to renovate and upgrade Brightleaf Square, a shopping and restaurant plaza near the Tobacco District.

Our team introduced new hardscaping, landscaping, and signage which engages pedestrians and directs them down the side street. Through careful material selection and lighting design,  the charm of the existing structures is enhanced. The result is one of the most vibrant shopping centers in Durham.

This project earned the 2012 Durham Golden Leaf Award for Community Appearance.

3608 University Drive

3608 University Drive

In 1997, RND Architects outgrew its existing office space in Durham and purchased an empty lot on University Drive to build upon. The firm designed a non-typical two-story building on the site which parallels its parking lot. The site-responsive structure steps down the site and embraces visitors by exposing its vertical circulation on the exterior of the building.

Tall, oversize windows admit light deep into the building and provide ample views from offices on both floors. This expanse of glazing on the east strongly contrasts the monolithic southern facade, which parallels the busy main street. The building is home to four beautiful commercial suites. The RND Architects office currently occupies Suite 204.
